Teen Brothers Struck By MSP Vehicle, One Killed

Posted: Updated:

BERLIN, Md. - One teen is dead and another is hospitalized after the pair was hit by an unmarked Maryland State Police car.

The brothers, Tymeir Dennis and Tyheym Bowen, were struck while crossing Route 113 near Bay Street in Berlin.

Dennis was taken to Atlantic General Hospital and was pronounced dead. He was 16-years-old, and a Junior at Stephen Decatur High School.

"They're both great people and its upsetting to see to see this happen to such great people," said friend David Clark in a message to WMDT.

Bowen, the older teen of the two, was taken to PRMC and later flown to Maryland Shock Trauma for treatment. His exact age is unknown at this time.

It happened about 8 p.m., when 21-year-old Trooper Nicholas Hager was headed north on 113, and reports  say the brothers ran into the path of the car. Hagar tried to avoid them, but the two were hit.

It's not known where the teens were headed, but there is a convenience store on the corner of Bay Street and Route 113. A clerk, who did not want to be identified, said there is a lot of foot traffic in that area.  He added people often walk to and from that store.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team is continuing the investigation.

Trooper Hager was treated and released Saturday. Reports show he was hired by Maryland State Police in June 2011 and is a one-year veteran assigned to the Berlin Barrack.

There's no word if speed played a role.

We'll have more as this story develops.
