SALISBURY, Md. - Some families may feel the pressure this holiday season due in part to recent cutbacks in food stamps.
To help with the costs, food banks across Maryland pack food to provide for those in need. Dozens of volunteers packed canned goods and holiday delights at the Maryland Food Bank - Eastern Shore for the 2nd annual Pack To Give Back event.
Organizers say they packed 1,800 boxes Thursday afternoon, 400 more than last year.
"They're middle class families that are losing their jobs and we're still saying, you know what the community and Maryland Food Bank are going to rally together and provide some food provisions for you to get through Thanksgiving and Christmas," said Jennifer Small of the Maryland Food Bank.
Ultimately, the boxes will be paired with turkeys and will be distributed to soup kitchens, pantries and shelters across the Eastern Shore. Small says the public can help provide even more meals to families in need at the food bank's website.
