Troopers Arrest Bridgeville Man For 11th DUI


BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - Delaware State Police say they have arrested a Bridgeville man after a traffic stop leads to his 11th DUI.

According to reports, around 6:40 PM Saturday evening, a trooper was traveling southbound on Coverdale Road just north of Hastings Farm Road when a truck that was in front of him was observed traveling above the posted speed limit, and continued to enter into the northbound lanes numerous times.  Troopers say they activated the emergency equipment on the patrol car and the truck turned left onto Hastings Farm Road where it came to a stop in a private driveway. The trooper reportedly observed signs of impairment in the driver, Ruppert Bell Jr., and a DUI investigation ensued.

Troopers say Bell was subsequently taken into custody and transported back to Troop 5 where he was arrested for 7th Offense DUI after 6 prior, Driving After Judgment Prohibited, Driving While Suspended or Revoked, Failure to Remain in a Single Lane, and Speeding.  A computer check allegedly revealed 10 previous convictions of DUI (01/15/87, 2/21/87, 09/01/87, 02/11/89, 04/07/90, 11/03/90, 09/25/93, 12/04/98, 07/12/03, 06/04/05).  Bell was reportedly arraigned at JP3 and committed to SCI in default of $16,102 cash bond.
