Nov. 21 - Thanksgiving For Thousands

Posted: Updated:

GOOD MORNING DELMARVA - Below is a note from Mountaire Farm with an introduction to their Thanksgiving For Thousands Food Program.

We don't have to travel seven thousand miles to find Hunger, Hurt and Hate.   We don't have to drive seven miles to find Hunger, Hurt and Hate.  Within seven minutes of our home, place of worship, school and workplace there is the growing problem of Hunger feeding Hurt.

"For the past 19 years we have met the challenge to curb the potential growth of hunger to hurt by providing the basics of nutritious meals to those who are Hurting.  Hopefully to begin the Healing process for those who no longer feel the pains of Hunger."  Says Roger Marino,  Mountaire's corporate director of community relations.

"We have provided thousands of canned and boxed food along with a Mountaire roaster to local residents and families who might go without a meal during the holiday season on the Delmarva Peninsula (Delaware, Maryland and Virginia).  It's about serving those where we live, work, play and pray.

Our program began with Thanksgiving for Thousands, a food program that now provides basics to almost 50,000 people on the three-state peninsula.

Thanksgiving has become a trilogy of food events for us; a time to give thanks for all the good things our Lord has provided.  So we began providing Thanksgiving at Christmas for food shelters, soup kitchens and food pantries.  And now we have a Thanksgiving trilogy that has evolved into Thanksgiving at Easter; To provide boxed, canned food and a roaster within the community church, focusing on individual members at their place of worship."

On Saturday, November 2, beginning at 10a.m. to 4:p.m., volunteers from  of American Legion Posts in Sussex and Kent counties, along with church and other community volunteers, will be positioned at these Delaware stores;  Giant Foods, Long Neck, Safeway, Rehoboth Beach, Walmart, Rehoboth Beach, Walmart,  Georgetown, Walmart, Seaford, Walmart, Milford, Food Lion, Milton, Hocker's, Ocean View.

As in the past, they will distribute flyers to patrons seeking their purchase of the following canned and boxed goods in cooperation with the various store managers: Canned Peas; Corn; Yams, Cranberry Sauce, Stuffing Mix and Brownie Mix will be the order of the day.

For information, or to volunteer these food items contact: rmarino@Mountaire.com or call 302-934-3123.
