Millsboro Residents Join Forces With Erin Brockovich's Team

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - The battle continues for some Millsboro residents fighting plans for a new chicken plant in their community. Now, they're teaming up with Erin Brockovich's consulting team.

The team met with the Millsboro group, "Protecting Our Indian River," back in September. According to a reports, Allen Harim Foods applied for and obtained more than $200,000 in special Brownfield grant funding from the state of Delaware, because the site was reportedly highly contaminated with pollutants left behind by Pinnacle Foods Corporation. The corporation owned Vlasic Foods up until 2007.

In a report by BP Environmental Inc., the consultant for Allen Harim Food's, the pollution includes leaking underground storage tanks and pipelines, unlawful solvent discharges, and more. They allegedly identified several pathways for human health exposure, including the contamination getting into local well water.

Erin Brockovich's team is now urging for a thorough investigation of the pollution that was abandoned by Pinnacle Foods Corporation.
