Wilmington Man Arrested For Edgemoor Arson

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. - The Delaware State Fire Marshal's office say they arrested a Wilmington man for setting a house, which he had been staying in, on fire early this morning.

According to reports, the blaze, reported shortly after midnight, occurred in the unit block of South Cannon Drive in Edgemoor Gardens near the Governor Printz Blvd.  The Brandywine Hundred Fire Company, along with the assistance from neighboring fire companies, reportedly extinguished the fire.

Deputy State Fire Marshals were called to the scene and conducted the criminal investigation. They say the fire was intentionally started inside the home causing about $5,000 in damage.  The investigation reportedly led to the arrest of Estaban Santiago, 29. He was allegedly charged with Arson in the second degree.

Authorities say Santiago was arraigned this afternoon and committed to the Howard Young Correctional Institute in lieu of a $2,000 secured bond.
