Salisbury Access Road To Be Named After CJ Abbott

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A street is being renamed in honor of a local teenager who reportedly gave his life, to save another. Mayor James Ireton, Jr., says the City of Salisbury and Courtesy Chevrolet Cadillac will be honoring CJ Abbott, by naming the access road at Route 13 and Courtesy for him. Abbott was a long time employee of the company, who lost his life in the September 3rd shooting on Onley Road.

Officials are inviting the public, and the Salisbury University community, to attend the ceremony on Saturday, October 26th, at 10:00 AM, at the corner of the access road to Toys "R" Us and Route 13 North.

Ray Nordstrom, owner of Courtesy Chevrolet Cadillac, said "Charles (CJ) Abbott was a skilled technician at Courtesy Chevrolet Cadillac in Salisbury. At nineteen years old he was well on his way to qualifying as a World Class General Motors Service Technician by age twenty three. A non-violent, gregarious person, he none the less found himself between a gunman intent on killing his friend and the intended victim. The action he took to protect his friend lead to him losing his life but ultimately saving hers. Such actions are not expected of one so young, but Charles Abbott possessed a maturity well beyond his chronological age, a circumstance which likely contributed to his actions."

Parking will be available towards the back of the Courtesy Chevrolet Cadillac lot.
