Donate Old Phones To Help Domestic Violence Victims

WMDT 47 NEWS - One way to help stop domestic violence is as simple as handing in an old phone.

Through "HopeLine," the public can donate wireless phones and accessories in any condition and from any service provider to local Verizon Wireless stores.

The phones are refurbished and resold to domestic violence agencies, or local government and law enforcement agencies, for use with their domestic violence clients to feel safer and less isolated. Officials tell WMDT that cell phones that are not in service can still be used to call 911 in emergency situations.

Bayhealth Medical Center in Delaware is collecting the phones until the end of October, but Verizon Wireless stores collect the phones year-round. For more information on how to donate, head over to their website.
