PointGrab's Hybrid Action Recognition Technology Powers New User Experience; Partnership Enters Fourth Year of Collaboration and Innovation
TEL AVIV, Israel, October 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
PointGrab Ltd. today announced that, together with Fujitsu Limited, a new and improved gesture control experience will be launched on Fujitsu desktop and note PCs. Now in its fourth year, the Fujitsu and PointGrab partnership was one of the first to deliver a gesture control experience to the mass consumer. Based on the vast availability and the maturity of the solution, this new version focuses on the user experience and aims to give everyone, especially first time users, an easy and intuitive gesture control experience.
"Gesture control has become an expected way of interaction on our consumer desktop and note PCs," said Hisamichi Higuchi, Senior Director of Ubiquitous Business Strategy Unit, Fujitsu Limited. "The maturity and availability of the solution has allowed us to focus on the user, making sure we provide a rich, reliable and effective experience that more consumers will adopt and use."
PointGrab has ensured that the user experience is a central part of the new solution by learning and analyzing users' behaviors and usage patterns based on the millions of devices that currently employ the company's gesture solutions. The whole system was designed and built to be customizable to users' needs, allowing them to configure many parameters for the most personalized experience. It also includes a new in-app guide to better introduce and demonstrate the gesture experience for first time users and a unique Camera Splitter app, allowing multiple applications to share camera output along with PointGrab. The new Fujitsu version enables consumers to control and interact with the Windows 8.1 OS, as well as applications from the Windows shop.
"Building on our ongoing partnership with Fujitsu shows that there is a demand for gesture control and customers are adopting this as a natural way to operate their devices," said Haim Perski, CEO of PointGrab. "Being able to offer an extended user experience across all Fujitsu devices helps us get closer to achieving our goal of providing a real 'usable' gesture control experience for everyone."
PointGrab's new Hybrid Action Recognition technology enables a system to better anticipate, understand and analyze a user's body language. Based on the advanced machine-learning algorithm, the system can detect and analyze complex situations of shapes and motion as well as differentiate gestures from 'look-alike' gestures to make the whole experience more reliable and effective. Customer can now use a variety of actions such as swipe, thumbs up, grab, drag and drop, two hands zoom and rotate to interact with their screen. They can also even mute their device with a "shh" gesture and control the volume by sliding a "V" shape with two fingers.
The new PointGrab solution will be available on Fujitsu desktop and note PCs beginning Fall 2013.
