Girdletree Man Accused Of Impersonating Worcester Co. Sheriff

WORCESTER CO., Md. - A Girdletree man has been charged with impersonating a Police Officer.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office says 43-year-old Michael Sponseller put an ad on Craigslist to try and sell dogs.

During that time, Sponseller reportedly got into an argument with someone through email, about the legality of selling dogs online, when he identified himself as Sheriff Reggie Mason. Police say Sponseller threatened to arrest the person for harassing him about the Craigslist ad.

Sponseller was charged with impersonating a police officers, and is awaiting trial. The Worcester County Sheriff's Office would like to remind the community that Sheriff Mason does not use Craigslist to sell animals or other items.
