Salisbury Police Department Gets 'OK' To Purchase New Equipment

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury Police Department plans to purchase new equipment.

Salisbury City Council voted in favor of the department using funds from the "Speed Camera Program" to upgrade their Cellebrite equipment at their October 14th meeting. The technology, which they bought two years ago, allows them to download forensic data from cell phones, and other electronic devices, to assist in criminal investigations. Police say that so far, the device has assisted in more than 40 search warrants, but it needs updating.

City council also passed a first reading on using funds from the "Speed Camera Program" for the purchase of eight glock handguns for simunitions training, which is the most active and "real-world" training to prepare police for "active shooter" training. The ordinance now has to pass a second reading, but Salisbury police say they are confident it will also be successful.
