Gansler Announces DE Jolene Ivey As Running Mate

Posted: Updated:

BELTSVILLE, Md. (AP) - Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler has named Del. Jolene Ivey his running mate in his bid for the Democratic nomination in the governor's race.

Gansler made the announcement Monday in Beltsville.

Ivey is a two-term delegate who represents Prince George's County. She is the first African-American woman to be a running mate in a Maryland governor's race.

Ivey, who is 52, has served in Maryland's House of Delegates since 2007. She has served on the House Ways and Means Committee.

Gansler is running against Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, who has chosen Howard County Executive Ken Ulman as his running mate. Del. Heather Mizeur also is running for the nomination. Mizeur has not yet announced a running mate.
