Rainy Weather Helping Many Fall Crops

Posted: Updated:

SALSIBURY, Md. - The weather may have been gloomy lately, causing damage to the local pumpkin crop. But now, some say it's welcomed and not everyone is complaining.

"We have broccoli, collard greens, kale and all that other kind of stuff," said Brent Malone, owner of How Sweet It Is Produce and Garden Center.

"They really needed some rain so it was kind of bitter sweet."

Pumpkins are only a portion of the fall crops. The other seasonal staples will soon make appearances at many holiday dinners and can use the extra drizzle.

But one other crop that could be slowed by the weather is corn. Farmers are waiting for the fields to dry out so they can harvest the grain that's set to be used for chicken feed.
