Posted: Updated:

TOWNSEND, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a Smyrna man is in critical condition after the car he was driving struck a stopped school bus.

Authorities said the accident happened just before 8 a.m. Friday as the empty bus was stopped on the shoulder of Rt. 13 in Townsend near Main Dr, to allow students to board.

Police said a car driven by 43-year-old Curtis Morris ran into the back of the bus, and may have struck one of the students waiting to board.

Authorities said five students who were boarding or waiting to board the bus were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of the bus, 43-year-old Carol Shane of Townsend, was not injured.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
