DOVER, Del. - It looks like another deserving Delaware family is getting their home made over, by Schell Brothers Home Builders.
After hearing about 16-year-old Ben Knapp, who suffered a severe brain injury putting him in a wheelchair, Schell Brothers decided to lend a hand and make the Knapp's Dover home, wheelchair accessible. The makeover will reportedly include wheelchair and shower access, a functional nurse's station, a track system for lifting Ben to and from his bed and chair, and soundproof walls to augment his hearing.
Chris Schell says, "Ben's parents are both in jobs that give more to others than themselves, and giving back to them seemed the right thing to do." His father, Chip, coaches Wesley College football and his mother, Cindy, works in the child welfare field.
The "makeover team" is planning to complete the project as quickly as possible, with as little disruption to the Knapp's daily life as possible.
Brain Injury Association of Delaware will be honoring Schell Brothers at their Embellish Your Melon fundraiser. The event will be November 2nd, from 6:30 - 9:30 PM, at Harry's Savory Ballroom in Wilmington. For more information visit BIADE's website.
