Third Subject In Custody For Laurel Attempted Robberies

Posted: Updated:

LAUREL, Del. - Delaware State Police say a third person has been arrested in connection with two attempted robberies in Laurel.

According to reports, Troy Sanders was taken into custody on Monday night after Police received a tip that Sanders was in the area of Mill Park Drive in Bridgeville. Sanders reportedly provided a fake name when questioned and Police say he was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia.

Delaware State Police say on Saturday around 1:50 AM, a black male walked into the Oasis Travel Plaza on Sussex Highway near Laurel, and demanded money from the female employee. When she refused to open the register, the suspect reportedly reached across the counter and tried to open it himself, but failed.

He the apparently fled the store, into a silver four door sedan and which drove off. Laurel Police say they had a similar incident happen around 4:30 AM, with a similar suspect.

Around 6:00 AM a DSP Trooper on patrol found a vehicle matching the description parked at a home on Mill Park Drive in Bridgeville, and talked to 50-year-old Anita Amoroso, of Laurel, who was arrested.

An investigation reportedly showed that Amoroso drove 33-year-old Shawn Alston, and 29-year-old Troy Sanders, both of Bridgeville, to the Oasis Travel Plaza, dropped them off, and then picked them up again after the attempted robbery. Police say she did the same in Laurel.

Police arrested Alston around 10:00 AM on Saturday.

Sanders, Alston, and Amoroso have all be charged with 2nd degree attempted robbery, and 2nd degree conspiracy.

Sanders was also charged with Criminal Impersonation and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $9,000 bond.

Amoroso is being held at Delores J. Baylor Women's Correctional Institution on $5,000 bond, while Alston is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $5,000 bond.
