NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - George Read Middle School near New Castle is on alert after Colonial School District officials say they received a "credible threat" that a student may bring a gun to school.
No incidents have been reported Tuesday and Delaware State Police say they have made no arrests in the case.
Superintendent Dorothy Linn says a threatening note was placed in a student advisor's mailbox Monday.
School staff and uniformed police stood guard outside each entrance and students were searched as they entered. The school doesn't yet have an attendance tally, but several buses arrived with only a handful of students Tuesday morning. The district is excusing absences if the threat makes parents uncomfortable sending their children to school.
