Previous City Official In Fruitland Pleads Guilty To Theft

FRUITLAND, Md. - A former city official in Fruitland has admitted stealing thousands of dollars in public funds for personal use.

According to court documents, George Calloway, the former deputy director of public works and utilities for the city of Fruitland, pleaded guilty to the theft scheme in Wicomico County Circuit Court. Documents say Calloway was given a one-year suspended jail sentence and will be on probation for two years. Police say Calloway had government property and equipment in his possession, including tools and medical supplies. His position was terminated after eleven years with the city.
