DOVER, Del. - A Wednesday afternoon fatal crash at the Dover toll plaza is under investigation.
Delaware State Police say around 11:50 AM, 83-year-old Shirley Taylor, of Wilmington was driving a 2007 maroon Honda Civic on SR1, coming up to the toll plaza, when she reportedly didn't stop when the two vehicles in front of her were stopped to pay the toll. According to the report, the Civic hit the back of a 1999 Sterling 10 wheel rollback truck.
Taylor was reportedly removed from the car by the Dover Fire Department, and taken to Kent General Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later in the afternoon. The truck driver, who was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, was taken from the scene by EMS to KGH, for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say that they had received calls before the crash about a maroon car driving erratically on SR1. The DSP Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash. The toll plaza was closed for two hours after the crash, during which traffic was rerouted to the express lanes and tolls were suspended.
