Delaware Panel Eyes Grant Request From German Firm

Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP) - A German flooring products company is seeking more than $400,000 in Delaware taxpayer money to build a small manufacturing facility in Dover.

The state Council on Development Finance was to consider the funding request from Uzin Utz AG during a meeting Monday in New Castle.

Uzin Utz is asking for a state performance grant of up to $153,619 and a capital expenditure matching grant of up $264,750 from the Delaware Strategic Fund.  The company wants to use the money to build and outfit a manufacturing facility in the Garrison Oak Technical Park that would employ about two dozen people.

Dover's city council recently agreed to sell about 11 acres in the park to Uzin Utz for $1,000 an acre, a fraction of the appraised value of $35,000 an acre.
