UPDATE: UMES Student Shot Off-Campus In Princess Anne

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore officials are saying a student was shot in the early morning hours of September 22nd in an off-campus incident in Princess Anne.

According to reports, the Princess Anne Police Department responded to the area of Somerset Avenue near Oak Street in reference to a shooting. Police say the victim was attempting to stop a fight when he was shot in the leg, but his injury was not life threatening. Bill Robinson, University spokesman, says Chief Leatherbury of the Princess Anne Police Department, reports the young man was treated but not admitted to the hospital. Chief Leatherbury says the university's notification system was activated as a matter of routine and policy. Robinson says the Princess Anne Police Department is currently investigating.
