DELMAR, Md. - Construction at the highly anticipated Heron Ponds Amphitheater is now underway and more than music will be played on the grounds.
Owner Doug Marshall and local officials broke ground at the 30-acre lot at his Heron Ponds property. The Amphitheater will eventually be a venue to house outdoor concerts. Marshall says construction is beginning right away, and while that's going on, the space will be used for drive in movies every Friday and Saturday nights beginning on September 27th.
The owner said that "2014 is going to bean exciting year for the Heron Ponds Amphitheater."
"The berm will be done next week this time. The stage will be constructed in December, so that will be our first phase. [In order of construction] berm , stage and the two tournament soccer fields."
Marshall says those two soccer fields will be up and ready for use during the Spring. Also, he announced the acquisition of Yorkshire Estates, where he wants to build additional affordable housing for Delmar.
When asked what else he plans to put in, Marshall told WMDT "you never know."
