NEW REPORT: 15% Of Americans Are Living In Poverty

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS - A new report released from the Census Bureau says that 15 percent of Americans are living in poverty, years after the great recession ended.

This means 46.5 million Americans live on an individual income of under $12,000 a year, or around $23,000 for a family of four. The income has gone downhill since the recession hit, and is still 8.3 percent below where it was in 2007. However, poverty remains fair below the 22.4 percent it was at in 1959 when the Census first began tracking the data.
