Antares Set To Launch Wednesday With High Hopes From Congress

Posted: Updated:

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. - It has been a historic month of launches on the Eastern Shore and Wednesday may add to that.

NASA Wallops is scheduled to launch the Antares rocket to the International Space Station. The mission will bring cargo up to the ISS and if this launch is successful, it will allow Orbital and NASA to launch eight more re-supply missions.

WMDT spoke with Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), who chairs the Commerce, Justice and Science subcommittee which helps fund the space program on the importance of this flight.

"It's jobs in the Eastern Shore," said Mikulski. "We estimate about five hundred. Two, it advances our scientific agenda for utilizing the space station and three, we can say goodbye to our independence of the Russians."

The launch is scheduled for tomorrow morning between 10:50 and 11:05 AM.
