WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) says Congress is still trying to grasp exactly what happened.
WMDT asked the Senator if she heard anything new from folks in Washington, specifically how Aaron Alexis got security clearance to enter the U.S. Navy Yard.
Mikulski said she wasn't prepared to answer that question just yet and she's waiting to hear what the FBI investigation reveals.
"I believe both the Pentagon and the Congress needs to look at what's happening with these defense contractors who get these security clearances with these people who really have questionable stability," said Mikulski.
The FBI says Navy Yard gunman Aaron Alexis had a shotgun with him and got ahold of a handgun after he started firing on the property.
