Virginia State Police Investigating Fatal Crash In Accomack Co.

ACCOMACK CO., Va. - Virginia State Police say they are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash in Accomack County.

According to reports, the crash occurred Saturday, September 14th, at around 10:54 AM at the intersection of Highway 13 and Taylor Road.  A 1993 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck was reportedly driving southbound on Highway 13 in the left lane, when a 1987 Dodge Caravan pulled into its path. The Dodge Caravan was allegedly traveling east on Taylor Road as it crossed onto Highway 13. Police say the Chevrolet pickup was unable to avoid the Caravan and struck the minivan in the driver's side. The driver of the Caravan, Winifred Burkhead, 82, of Tasley, Virginia, reportedly died at the scene, and was not wearing a seat belt. Police say the driver of the S10 pickup, Morris Ames, 50, of Onancock, Virginia, was transported to Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Morris was allegedly wearing a seat belt. Police say the crash remains under investigation.
