DOVER, Del. - A Pennsylvania teen is in police custody after allegedly being found with a gun on Wesley College's campus.

According to campus police, two students reported the possibility of a loaded gun in a backpack. With the help of Dover Police, campus security confronted 19-year-old Vaughn Reese during class and say that they found a .25 cal handgun in his backpack. Reese reportedly told authorities he was carrying the weapon "for protection."

The student was then arrested and has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon/firearm and possession of a weapon in a safe school zone. He was committed to James T. Vaughn in default of $4,000.00 secured bond.

Campus police stress that this is not an ongoing threat, so there was no need to immediately alert the campus community. They released this statement to WMDT: "The actions of the students who reported the incident to Security is commended. This is a reminder to us all that we are responsible for one another's safety. Faculty, staff and students are always urged to be alert to anything dangerous or suspicious and report it to Wesley Security or the Dover Police."

The Wesley policy on weapons is as follows: Using or possessing ammunition, firearms or items that resemble firearms (including paintball guns), illegal knives (knives with blades longer than five and one-half inches, hand instruments designed to cut or stab another by being thrown, stilettos, poniards, bowie knives, swords, and/or spears) or other illegal weapons on College property are prohibited.
