UPDATE: Man Charged in Missing Dover Woman’s Death

Posted: Updated:

LEIPSIC, Del. - Delaware State Police Homicide Detectives say they have arrested and charged a 21-year-old Leipsic man in connection with the death of 19 year-old Taylor Owens of Dover.

According to reports, Owens was had been the center of an ongoing missing person's investigation since September 4th, after family members contacted State Police, after she had reportedly not been seen or heard from since August 31st.

On Saturday, September 7th, at approximately 5:40 PM, troopers say they were notified of the discovery of possible charred human remains located by area residents in a wooded area along the 200 block of Denny Street in Leipsic.

After further investigation and interviews, detectives say they were able to connect Tony Mozick Jr. to the death of Owens, which occurred on August 31st, after a physical domestic altercation in a residence that they shared in the 200 block of Denny Street.  Mozick, then reportedly moved the body to the wooded area where he tried to dispose of the remains by burning. Police say Tony Mozick Jr. was arrested earlier Sunday morning and charged with the death of Taylor Owens. He was allegedly charged with Murder First Degree and Abusing a Corpse, and was remanded to James T. Vaughn Correctional Center without bond.

This isn't the first time the Mozick name has been in the headlines.  In January, just half a mile from the home on Denny Street where Owens was reportedly murdered, Tony Mozik Senior, the father of accused murderer Tony Mozick Jr, was allegedly stabbed to death by his daughter's boyfriend, Gerard Schweiger.

A month later, Mozick Senior's body was found in the Leipsic river, and in July, that daughter, Jennifer Barnes, who is Mozik Junior's sister, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for helping to dispose of her father's body.

Schweiger is set to stand trial for the murder April 2014.

Police say the investigation  into Taylor Owens' death is still active and ongoing with troopers continuing to conduct interviews and gather evidence.  Taylor Owens' remains were reportedly turned over to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.  Reports say no further investigative details will be released at this time.

If anyone has any information about this incident are asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 302-741-2728 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
