PRMC Closing Transitional Care Unit, 43 Employees Affected

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A local hospital has announced that they are closing their transitional care unit, and 43 people could lose their jobs.

On Friday, Peninsula Regional Medical Center said that they will be closing the doors to their Transitional Care Unit, that opening in 1997. The hospital says that now, patients don't need the inpatient rehabilitation services, and can get those with outpatient services at home, and at other facilities in the area.

PRMC's TCU will stop accepting patients on Friday, and will continue to work with current patients, until transitioning to alternative care options. The unit will close once the final patient has been discharged.

PRMC says that about 43 employees will be affected by the change, and they will try to work with them to find them other positions within the health system or skilled nursing facilities in the area.
