Drive-In Theater Planned For Delmar Amphitheater

Posted: Updated:

DELMAR, Md. - This time next year, Doug Marshall says he won't be driving on the now-empty, open-field next to his Delmar housing complex.

In a car ride through the property, Marshall pictured musicians he hopes will take the stage. Among those mentioned included the Zac Brown Band, Reba McEntire and Taylor Swift. In the meantime, Marshall will set up a brand-new feature, a drive-in movie theater.

"It's a big, open-field, we have plenty of electricity. We got parking. We got anything we need," said Marshall.

The plan is to set up old telephone poles, which are currently lying on the property and put up a $2,000 screen. The first showing is scheduled for September 21st, but, as he did with the amphitheaterMarshall will need approval from the Town of Delmar.

"I'm sure he'll tow the line and do just fine just like he did with the amphitheater project," said Delmar, Md. mayor Carl Anderton Jr. "He met everything we've asked him to do. He did it and I'm sure this will be no different."

If the town says yes, the drive-in theatre will only be temporary. Once the amphitheater is up-and-running, they will still show discounted films at least once a week, bringing an old form of entertainment to a brand-new venue.

As far as movies, Marshall says he is still working on a contract with a production company, but plans to show both a kids and adult movie. The ticket prices per showing, he says, will be $10 a car.
