Harrington Woman Charged With Forgery

Posted: Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del. - Police say a Harrington woman is now behind bars after she allegedly stole an elderly man's check book.

According to reports, Police were contacted by the victim's family in reference to a checkbook being stolen and several checks being forged. Police say, after an investigation, they were able to identify 23-year-old Brooke Clements as the suspect.

Authorities say Clements was the girlfriend of the victim's grandson. According to police, Clements and the victim used to live in the same house on the 200 block of East Center Street.

Investigators say Clements forged her name on several checks and cashed the checks at different locations around Harrington without the victim's knowledge.

Police say Clements was taken into custody on Tuesday without incident after officers reportedly obtained a warrant.

According to reports, Clements is charged with 33 counts of theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years or older and 34 counts of Forgery Second Degree.  Reports say she is being held on $50,000 secured bond.

The Harrington Police Department is continuing its investigation to determine if more suspects are involved.
