Military Practice Bomb Lands In MD Parking Lot

SUDLERSVILLE, Md. (AP) - A Maryland National Guard official says an electronic failure may be to blame for a practice bomb being dropped on a Queen Anne's County bar parking lot.

Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Charles Kohler said Friday that an A-10 Warthog jet was returning from a training mission Thursday night when the inert device was dropped. He says the guard is not conducting flight operations with this aircraft while the incident is investigated.

The state fire marshal's office says witnesses reported the device fell from the sky onto the paved parking lot at Darlene's Tavern in Sudlersville. Fire marshal's office bomb technicians were called in after first responders cleared away debris to find the military style device. It was later turned over to the National Guard.
