North Lake Forest Submits Plan To Improve School Security

Posted: Updated:

FELTON, Del. - One major topic of change for schools this year is security upgrades and Lake Forest School District is looking to relocate main offices at two elementary schools.

Back in May, 33-year-old Mark Martin was arrested after allegedly walking inside Lake Forest North Elementary school with eight bags of heroin inside his pocket.

"It would take some major remodeling, hundreds of thousands of dollars to get the office moved to the front door. We're certainly open to that its just a matter of raising the funds," said superintendent Dan Curry in an interview with WMDT on May 31st.

Now, the school district has submitted a $10 million major capital improvement request package proposal to the State of Delaware, which includes main office relocation in both Lake Forest North and Lake Forest East Elementary schools. Also, Curry says he hopes the money will allow them to add additional security cameras at Lake Forest South Elementary School.

According to Curry, these changes will not happen this year.

The district has hired a new resource officer for W.T. Chipman Middle School, who is an officer with the Harrington Police department.
