Del. Suit Alleges Failure To Report Child Abuse

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - The state attorney general's office is suing a Dover physician's assistant for allegedly failing to report a suspected case of child abuse.

The lawsuit claims that a during an office visit this month, a 9-year-old patient told Melissa Dean of ABC Pediatrics that a friend of his uncle had touched him in the buttocks area two years ago, and he was afraid it would happen again.

The lawsuit says Dean told the boy's mother to arrange an interview with the Children's Advocacy Center, an agency that helps coordinate child abuse investigations, but that Dean failed to call a 24-hour reporting line as required by state law.

Dean declined to comment Friday. The attorney general's office defended the reporting requirement but declined to comment on the case.
