WICOMICO CO., Md - In about three weeks Wicomico County will debut their new Citizen Warning/Alert Siren System, which is designed to alert residents about an imminent dangers including violent weather.
The alerts will be broadcast over all of the 13 sirens located at local fire departments. However, the system can also be activated in specific areas of the county. In the event of an emergency the alarm will sound for a sustained 2 minutes. Upon hear the alert residents should then take shelter immediately and tune into local news outlets of additional information. County officials say residents should not call 911 to learn the cause of the alarm.
The new system will be tested the first Monday of each month at 7:30PM. During the monthly test, the siren emits a single 10 second sustained alert tone. The new siren will be active on September 11th.
