Pocomoke Company Selling Bulletproof Whiteboards To Schools

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - In light of last year's tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary among other school shootings, schools nationwide have been looking for ways to increase security.

At the 62nd annual Maryland Association of Counties Summer Conference in Ocean City, Pocomoke company Hardwire LLC is showing off a bulletproof whiteboard. Company owner George Tunis says the board can fit around a teacher's arm, featuring the same technology he uses for police armor.

"This is about four times the size of a piece of body armour for a police officer, so you have plenty of coverage for your vital organs," said Tunis. "We want to make it light enough and handy enough so that it was small like a fire extinguisher."

Already, the company says it has started selling the teaching tool to Worcester Prep and schools in North Dakota.
