WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Thousands lost electricity and rail traffic is being delayed after thunderstorms passed through northeastern Maryland and northern Delaware, spawning at least one report of a funnel cloud.
The National Weather Service says it received a report of a funnel cloud sighting along U.S. Route 40 in Aberdeen, Md. early Tuesday.
Amtrak warns passengers traveling between Wilmington and Baltimore to expect delays because outages are affecting the signaling system.
The weather service says it received reports of flash flooding and wind damage in New Castle County, Del., where wind gusts were estimated at 60 mph. Delaware Emergency Management Agency says it is sending crews to restore power to darkened traffic signals with generators. The News Journal reports rescue crews used boats to reach motorists stranded in New Castle.
