Truck Driver Charged After Malkus Bridge Fuel Spill

DORCHESTER CO., Md. - A ruptured fuel tank, lead to a fuel spill clean up in Dorchester County on Tuesday morning.

Maryland State Police say around 10:00 AM, a Freightliner truck was driving on Route 50 on the Malkus Bridge, through a construction zone, when traffic came to a sudden stop. According to the report, the driver, 50-year-old Patrick Abbott, of Hebron, hit the brakes, and skid into the barrier, which ruptured the truck's fuel tank, spilling diesel fuel into the road and water below.

Clean up of the spill was handled by the Maryland Department of the Environment, Cambridge HAZ MAT, and the Coast Guard. Abbott refused treatment at the scene, and was charged with negligent driving.
