WILMINGTON, Del. - Delaware State troopers say they have arrested a 22-year-old Virginia man after stealing he stole a motorcycle in Philadelphia, PA and then crashed it on I95 in Wilmington.
According to reports, the incident began on Saturday morning at an automobile business in Philadelphia, PA, when Tony Harris, 22 of Norfolk, VA was test riding a Suzuki motorcycle with another individual. They reportedly stopped for fuel, at which point the individual felt uncomfortable about the test ride continuing and requested the keys for the Suzuki. Harris allegedly pointed a handgun at the individual and fled on the motorcycle onto I95 at a high rate of speed with the other individual following. He reportedly attempted to exit onto the Delaware Avenue off ramp, lost control of the motorcycle and struck the guardrail, and was ejected. He then allegedly fled on foot, and was observed by the individual following him, tossing the gun into brush alongside of the roadway. Police say they eventually located Harris and took him into custody without incident in the area of 11th and Adams Street in Wilmington. A semiautomatic handgun and two loaded 16 round ammunition clips were allegedly located in the brush where Harris was seen throwing it.
Reports say Harris was transported by ambulance to the Christiana Trauma Hospital Center where he was admitted with non-life threatening injuries. He was reportedly arraigned and committed on $10,000 secured bond and placed into the custody of the Department of Corrections. The Philadelphia Police Department says they are continuing their investigation into the initial incident that occurred in Philadelphia, pending charges.
