GEORGETOWN, Del. - A Trooper involved shooting, which left one man in critical condition, is under investigation in Georgetown. Delaware State Police say shortly after 10:00 PM on Thursday, a Trooper arrived at a Deep Branch Road home, while investigating a hit and run that happened earlier in the day in Millsboro.

According to the report, the Trooper spoke with 53-year-old Michael Rogers, of Georgetown inside the house, and asked him about his involvement in the earlier crash, but during the questioning, Rogers, who was reportedly highly intoxicated, became uncooperative and violent. Police say Rogers stated to struggle with the Trooper, who tried to use his Tazer, but it was apparently ineffective. The confrontation reportedly continued, during which, the Trooper apparently fired multiple shots from his Divisional Issued weapon, hitting Rogers in the upper body and lower extremities.

Rogers was taken by ambulance, and admitted to Beebe Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition. The Trooper was treated for injuries sustained during the altercation, and released.

State Police Officials say that the Trooper is a 3 year veteran of DSP, and is assigned to Troop 4 In Georgetown. He is currently on administrative leave, until the investigation is wrapped up. Detectives with the State Police Homicide Unit are investigating the incident.

Rogers was charged with a felony count of 2nd degree assault injuries a law enforcement officer, and a felony count of resisting arrest with force or violence. He was arraigned and is being held on bond, hospitalized in the custody of the Department of Corrections.
