Police Believe Alcohol A Factor In Ocean City Motor Scooter Crash

OCEAN CITY, Md. - A Maryland man is listed in critical condition, after his motor scooter collided with a box truck in Ocean City on Wednesday afternoon.

Ocean City Police say around 2:30 PM, the 26-year-old California, Maryland man was riding near 84th Street and Coastal Highway, when he apparently tried to pass bicyclists in the bus lane, but veered into traffic, hitting the side of a large delivery box truck.

According to reports, the man, who was reportedly wearing a helmet, was taken to PRMC with several life threatening injuries, but was later transferred to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he is now listed in critical condition.

Police say they believe that alcohol use by the driver of the scooter is a factor in the crash. They say there are no charges pending against the driver of the box truck.
