Have Extra School Supplies? Wicomico Co. Rotary Clubs Need Help!

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - If you are planning on going school supply shopping, or maybe just have some extra book bags lying around, the Rotary Club of Salisbury, the Salisbury Sunrise Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Wicomico County needs your help.

From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM the clubs will be outside the K-Mart on Route 50 and Tilghman Road in Salisbury, collecting school supplies for the Back to School Backpack Project. Those wishing to participate are asked to buy traditional back to school items like backpacks, spiral notebooks, pencils, loose leaf paper, soft pencil pouches, crayons, highlighters, plastic rulers, lined index cards and glue sticks. Cash donations are also being accepted, and if you can't make it this Saturday, you can give the items to any rotary member before August 17th. The items will then be given away to deserving children at the Christian Shelter in Salisbury.

"I remember a little boy last year said, 'it's heavy' and I said 'look in it' and it was filled. That's what makes it fun, to see their eyes and their smiles," says Marie Calafiura, Salisbury Rotary Club member.

Calafiura says they hope to stuff more than 600 bookbags, and for more information, or to donate, call Calafiura at 410-543-0182 or e-mail mcalafiura@worwic.edu.
