Heroic Dog Saves Accomack Family, But Looses Leg

Posted: Updated:

ACCOMACK CO., Va. - A family pet, being hailed a hero, is now back home with her loved ones, tonight.

Last week, a female pit bull, trying to protect her family from an intruder in Accomack County, was shot and critically wounded.

Lefteye needed to have surgery to amputate her front-right leg, and WMDT is told she's healing just fine.

According to the owner of Atlantic Animal Hospital, Lefteye went straight for an intruder, who shot her with a shotgun.

The blow shattered the dog's shoulder, tearing the soft tissue from her leg.

While Lefteye may have saved her family from physical danger, they were robbed, and the family says they don't have any way to pay for all of her care.

If you would like to help out, contact Atlantic Animal Hospital to make a donation to the "Lefty Fund," call 757-302-0345.
