Air National Guard Mobile Experience At DE State Fair

Posted: Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del. - For those up to the challenge, Delaware State "fair-goers" had the opportunity to experience the free Air National Guard Mobile Experience. The simulation provides people an opportunity to participate in challenges that replicate the real-life experiences of Air Guard men and women during basic military training, technical school and on drill weekend. WMDT's own Jarred Hill decided to give it a try.

There are three parts to the mobile experience. First, basic military training to test physical strength and endurance.

"Pushups? Peace of cake! Sit-ups? Keep 'em coming!" says Jarred.

When it came to pull-ups, the task wasn't as easy.

"Maybe I need a little more pull-up practice."

The second part of the experience is computer simulations, and the first step, is tech school.

"We're gonna take you through the medical career field, teach you about saving lives in the battle field and so on and so forth, and also help people locally in case we have a natural disaster here in the state of Delaware," says Max Maxwell, tour manager for the Air National Guard Mobile Experience.

A "reconnaissance mission" follows.

"We'll show you a satellite photo , you've got five seconds to look at it," says Maxwell.

Afterwards, Jarred had to answer questions about the details in each image. Overall, these challenges are just a short glimpse at what it's like to be an air national guard.

"If we have to fly into arms way, we can transport troops and help them rehabilitate themselves," says Terrence Parker, technical sergeant 166 airlift wing.

Jarred was told the mission was "unsuccessful," but that he still did a good job.
