It's All About The Ag At The DSF

Posted: Updated:

HARRINGTON, Del. - Well, it's my first night back from the Delaware State Fair, and the annual event is not just about the food, games and rides, we all know, Delaware is all about Ag! Take a look as WMDT's Jemie Lee explores the agricultural commodities building.

Did you know that there's a shortage of honeybees in the first state? And without them, one of our main sources of food could be depleted over time!

Charles Campbell of DE Beekeeper Association, says "they're the main source of pollination for vegetables and fruits." And this entire operation thrives off of one single bee, the Queen!

"The hive will dwindle down and just die without a queen in there" says Campbell.

From getting the buzz on bees and honey and understanding the flow of water run-off.

Delaware Ag is a big highlight at the Delaware State Fair! You can soak in the facts on pretty much everything under the sun, from watermelons to dairy farms and saving the forest. There's a wealth of information and fun at the agricultural commodities exhibit. The Delaware Pork Producers Association is here to debunk some common misconceptions about pigs.

Jemie Lee "now you may think of pork as a really fatty food but its not as bad as you may think!"

Patti Savin, a DE Pork Producers Association Volunteer, says "you can get the lean cuts. It is a healthy meat, protein."

And check out this cooking demo from a Japanese farm in Delmar. They're using fresh, locally grown produce! Their miso salsa was a big hit! So stop on by and get a taste of Delaware ag! There's plenty to bite into!

The agricultural commodities exhibit is open from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM everyday.
