HARRINGTON, Del. - Hopefully our service men and women get a chance to check out one of my favorite fair attractions, the food! Wednesday, everything was just peachy at the annual "Fifer's Peach Dessert Contest!"

Competitors were asked to make any dessert using fresh peaches! They were judged on appearance, creativity, flavor and texture. A big congratulations to Chuck Ivans of Harrington who won first place for the second year in a row with his smith island peach cake!

Ivans says "I layered it with peach preserves that are jarred and canned right here in Camden, Delaware from Fifer's. I infused it with some Snapps and just added a little twist to the Smith Island cakes."

Now, this cake is really a lot of work. There are about 7 layers, and it took Chuck nearly 6 hours to make, but it really paid off! He took home a bag of peaches, a jar of peach preserves, a hundred bucks, a nice ribbon and of course, bragging rights!
