SALISBURY, Md. - A man attempting to flee from authorities in Salisbury ends in a drug arrest.

According to reports, at around 3:14 AM on Friday, a deputy from the Wicomico County sheriff's Office attempted to stop Derek Largent, 31, who had just been seen walking in the 500 block of Bailey Lane, before he jumped into a running vehicle and drove away from the area. Instead of stopping, this subject sped up in an alleged attempt to flee the deputy. Largent reportedly tried to make his escape driving through back yards of two residences before coming to a stop after he ran out of travel space and was blocked in. The deputy reportedly apprehended Largent, who the only occupant in the car. Authorities say they recovered a baggie of what the deputy identified as cocaine and a knife. The deputy also reportedly discovered the State of Maryland had suspended Largent's privilege to drive a vehicle.

Authorities say they arrested Largent and transported him to the Central Booking Unit where he was processed and taken in front of the District Court Commissioner. After an initial appearance, the Commissioner detained Largent in the Detention Center in lieu of $10,000 bond.
