Woman Who Claimed Home Invasion Arrested

Posted: Updated:

LONG NECK, Del. (AP/WMDT) - Delaware State Police say a woman who reported a handgun was stolen during a home invasion has been charged with making a false report.

Twenty-five-year-old Lauren L. Wingate of Long Neck was charged Thursday with providing a false statement to a law enforcement officer.

Troopers say Wingate reported on Tuesday that two men broke into her home, hit her in the face and stole a handgun before fleeing.

Detectives say they interviewed Wingate again and say she admitted to letting two men into her home and giving them her father's pain medication as payment for a drug debt. Authorities say Wingate removed the handgun from the home to make it look as if there had been a home invasion.

Wingate is charged with providing a false statement to law enforcement, and is currently being held at SCI.
