Portrait Of Former Comptroller Unveiled

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A portrait of former Maryland Comptroller Robert Swann has been unveiled.

Comptroller Peter Franchot held a ceremony at the Treasury Building in Annapolis on Thursday. The portrait will hang in the reception room.

Swann was appointed comptroller in 1998, after longtime Comptroller Louis Goldstein died. He served in the office until William Donald Schaefer took office in January 1999.

Franchot says Swann provided important stability as the office transitioned from nearly 40 years under Goldstein's leadership to the office it is today.

The comptroller is the state's tax collector. The office also is responsible for regulating alcohol, tobacco and motor fuel industries.
