Mizeur Enters 2014 Race, Seeks Win As First Openly-Gay Governor

CRISFIELD, Md. - A democratic Maryland delegate officially enters her name into an already crowded pool of candidates for governor.

Del. Heather Mizeur (D) has been a member of Maryland's House of Delegates since 2007 serving Montgomery County. She says that while she has focused on promoting health care and has been an advocate for caution in allowing drilling for natural gas in the Marcellus Shale in western Maryland, she's also looking to help continue a sustainable economy in Maryland.

"I'm a small business owner. I know what it takes to create jobs and meet payroll and know the burdens that can be created on businesses," said Mizeur. "Government can be a partner to help businesses succeed and put more resources in the hands of our job creators."

If she's elected, Mizeur would not only become the nation's first openly-gay governor, but also Maryland's first female governor.
